FLUID TACTILITYA playful collection of reversible fabrics designed for womenswear, inspired by my investigation of materials; solids and liquids and how we respond to them.
I have explored, through photography, materials that are between solid and liquid such as playdough and jelly. My bright colour palette reflects the playful nature in which we respond to these materials. The need to touch and play decreases in importance as we become adults. I wanted to capture the essence of fun we get from play and transfer this energy into my tactile knits. |

KATAKANA HIRIGANAIn this project I looked at China and Japan and how East Asian culture, design and script is appropriated by Western society. I reflected on my own interest, from family ties to media influence. I designed fabrics for womenswear that were inspired by imagery from China and Japan whilst challenging why Katakana/Hirigana/Kanji writing is seen as cool and exotic, especially in fashion.

MY SIGHT COLLABORATIONInternal Environment
A Live Group Brief: to design interactive fabrics for artwork or soft furnishings for a new space at My Sight Nottinghamshire, a charity that helps people who are blind and visually impaired. We worked closely with the service users at My Sight, so that we could make fabrics that could be as visible as possible but also functional and interesting. Our work was displayed at the New Art Exchange in Nottingham alongside the work of My Sight's visually impaired artists group in an exhibition, Sensing Beyond Sight, that celebrated Disability Awareness month (December). |
